As a researcher and professor, it's part of my job to publish, assess and apply the latest endurance performance literature. Science on endurance and ultra-endurance performance is always evolving and it's my job not only to stay on top of the most up-to-date information, but to also continue to refine the coaching and training process.

But really, when it comes down to it, coaching is all about relationships. I view coaching as creating life long friendships, because you need to be able to tell your coach about the tough stuff as well as the running stuff. There's no way to become the best athlete you can be if you can't tell your coach when you are stressed, tired, or sad. At the end of the day, we run because it makes us happy and I hope to facilitate that relationship.
